My son has been going to Elite for several months and has loved it since day one. The instructors and staff are very welcoming and quick to learn your name. There is no pressure to make commitments you aren't ready for. Along with teaching taekwondo and self-defense, they work on life skills such as discipline, respect, focus, leadership, building self-esteem and confidence, communication skills and listening, and more. We have seen Ethan improve in several of these areas since starting at Elite. Throughout the year they also have several activities outside of the classes where students and their families have the opportunity to meet and hang out with other Elite families. We are very happy to have found Elite and appreciate all they have done for our son.

My son has been at Elite for 10 months. He has great leaders, role models, friends and family within Elite. He is engaged, growing and he had such a positive mindset. We are blown away by Elite Martial Arts in Olathe! We initially signed up for the 6-week trial and I didn’t have any intention of staying with it after that, but two years later we’re still here! The kids love it, the staff is amazing and the instructors are incredible! Everyone is positive and encouraging and my kids learn so much more than just self defense. They learn how to respect others, how to work toward achieving a goal, how to cope with a loss, and how to cheer on others when they are getting to do something they may have wanted to do themselves. Why choose Taekwondo and not another activity?
Realistically, I like indoor sports because I can support my child year-round without having to endure extreme heat, cold, or rain. I also like the flexibility of the schedule. There are 6 classes available and we should attend 2 per week, but I can pick the days that work best for my family given my daily workload and what’s going on with my other kids each week. It’s not a “now or never” time slot each week. Plus, I would argue that there’s a lot more dedication to positive character development in taekwondo than other sports.

Why choose Elite Martial arts?
My 10-year-old daughter has attended Elite for 5 years and I continue to be pleased with the instruction, formation, and community that the Elite staff provides. The school continues to grow in numbers, but also maintains a strong foundation of kind, motivated, and welcoming families that have been here for years and create the family atmosphere. If you’re looking for a community of people that dedicate their hearts and souls to taekwondo, you will find it here. If you’re looking for something to do just for fun but are not interested in a serious commitment, you will be equally welcomed, respected, and appreciated in this school. In my opinion, the main goal of all the instructors, staff members, and devout parents filling the seats every night are to build up and support every student, every day. During every single class, my daughter is praised at least once, usually more, by instructors and assistants that make it a priority to get to know and build relationships with every single student. I love that my daughter has a positive place to go where she can work with friends for the personal betterment of all without fostering any negativity or bitter competition with anyone. I also appreciate the growing diversity of the student that I have observed over the years. I truly believe that training here is better preparing her to work positively with a variety of people of differing skills in a global society.
While the exercise and self-defense skills my daughter has obtained are a plus, I value the program most for the character development maintained throughout all levels of the program. Instructors regularly address normal child feelings and how to deal with them effectively, values and how to live like a black belt by showing discipline, integrity, honesty, and resilience while also acknowledging human nature that make it hard to abide by them all the time. All of this is communicated from a place of striving for betterment and not one of judgement or recrimination. I also love knowing that my daughter is developing friendships with children that have this same mentality and goals with regards to their own values. While the school works to prepare students for success, it also creates a safe and supportive environment for people to experience failure. My daughter failed 3 consecutive belt testings while she struggled to implement the right movements and angle to break the board, despite her instructors’ best efforts. While no one plans for or desires failure, I was pleased with how well she learned to handle this struggle, the constructive support both her peers and instructors showed her, and how much she has matured since she experienced this.

While it pains me slightly to know that I drive by 4 martial arts academies on the 20 minute drive from my house to get to the school, and as students rise to more advanced levels, the cost increases, but for me it is worth the investment knowing that my daughter is being trained in such a positive, loving, community-oriented atmosphere that reinforces the values I want her to have as a leader and global citizen.

Bonus: Chipotle just opened right across the street.

My only caveat would be that Mr. Ritch naturally speaks very quickly, so English Language Learners or children that struggle to keep up with a fast pace may struggle in his classes and may do better in Mr. Besada’s classes in the Overland Park Elite school.

I can not recommend Elite Martial Arts enough! We encourage our children to participate in at least one activity outside of school and between 3 kids we’ve tried about every sport/music/dance activity there is. I can say Elite is my favorite. There is much more to it than just learning the physical acts of martial arts. The discipline, confidence, and self respect they teach the students is invaluable. My son loves Mr. Ritch, he makes it so fun for the kids while teaching them many important skills. We like that it is all inclusive and so we aren’t getting nickel and dimed every testing. My son wanted to try martial arts because it’s cool and what little boy doesn’t want to do some ninja moves. We also thought it would help him with his balance and coordination, which it has. Our daughter has been going to Elite for well over a year and enjoys it way more than we thought she would. They take the time to check up with the parents to see how the student is progressing both with taekwondo skills and mentally/socially. Our oldest son started with elite back in October of last year. he has SPD and we were looking for something that would help build his self esteem and confidence. the instructors have done that. they are so amazing with all the kids. and have never made our son feel like he was different from any of the other children. they have helped our son believe in himself, and he know tells us that he can do anything he wants as long as he works hard and never gives up. he has improved at home with his school work and he now come up to me and ask's if i need help with anything.

Elite has been such an unexpected blessing to our family. We were introduced to Elite at a mother/son event at our school and I was impressed with how great they were with the boys. We decided to try the 6 week trial, not having any previous experience with martial arts. Both my boys, ages 6 and 10 have grown so much in completely different ways during the year we?ve been at the school and I have so appreciated their individual approach to both of my children. The instructors are so inspiring for the kids - ranging from the Junior Leaders who assist in running the classes (which my oldest has expressed interest in doing when he?s older) to high degree black belts and World Champions. Many of the teenage students have been involved with Elite far longer than we have, but we?ve had the privilege of watching them develop into extraordinary young adults over the years. But what impresses me most about them is what great mentors they are for the younger students coming up. It?s not uncommon to see an older student taking time to help someone younger work on technique, or cheering them on from the sidelines, or celebrating their successes with them. We began Elite in July of 2017 to offer our kids a sport that would also teach them some self defense. We live south of Kansas City and I looked for options near home, but were only able to find Karate. While we are okay with Karate, it wasn't our first option. My husband really wanted Jiu-Jitsu or at least mixed martial arts. We have friends that attend Elite and I found a coupon on Facebook so even though it is a 40 minute drive for us, we decided to try it. Fully planning to only go for the 6 week trial and then if the kids liked it, find somewhere closer to home.

Everyone was so nice and welcoming. The classes teach so much more than just martial arts. I have never had much experience beyond the movies, so I didn't know what to expect. They teach respect, discipline and so much more! The other parents are kind and supportive. It is just such a positive place to be! We ended up falling in love with Taekwondo and the Elite family and signed up full-time!

Watching the way the instructors work with the students is inspiring! I have watched them take time to work with kids that have behavioral issues, helping them learn appropriate behavior and self discipline. While many would have told the parent they needed to fix the child, these instructors were kind and patient, but firm in helping them. It was so awesome to see the patience, respect and compassion shown.

My family loves the classes, the instructors, all of the staff, owners and other families. I have come to believe everyone should should take Taekwondo! At least for a while. There is so much to learn and so much potential for personal growth. I definitely recommend Elite as a wonderful place to start that journey!

Elite Martial Arts Review

I have wanted to do some kind of Martial arts since I was a child many decades ago. I thought that Jiu Jitsu was the one for me. Now that I'm a Dad to my daughter and son, I revisited the idea with my wife reasoning the I wanted them to be able to take care of themselves and be confident while doing so in their everyday life. My wife agreed to look into finding and trying out a Martial Arts facility near us. There were several we looked at that were within 2 miles of our house. All the facilities were comparable in pricing per month. We have friends at church that really like where they go for their boys Martial Arts classes. The issue was for us that where they go, Elite, it is about a 45 minute drive one way. We tabled that pretty quickly.
My wife then saw a suggested Facebook post for a $17.76 for each person initial trial membership at Elite. We decided to give it a short try since our friends at church really loved the Elite experience so much.
We started our trial membership in July 2017 where we were met by a very warm group greeting from the staff at the first class we attended. We were a welcomed family immediately. It was like we had been members for many years.
The teachers of all the classes are very knowledgeable, friendly and very demanding. Any one of them always have answers to any question that is ever asked by any member of our family.
They teach our kids discipline, honesty, trust, respect, courtesy and self-control & much more. It is a huge blessing because that backs up what my wife and I teach at home. We are very appreciative of all the instructors who take the time to teach and be examples to our kids. Besides teaching life lessons they teach all sorts of self defense moves, forms and sparring along with special guests that teach all sorts of many different Martial Art moves.
Needless to say we have not regretted for even one second joining the Elite Martial Arts family even though we drive about 2 hours round trip. Mr. & Mrs Bedford are fantastic leaders and examples for everyone in my family. We are very excited and looking forward to earning our Black Belts while being members of the Elite Martial Arts family. I highly recommend anyone looking for learning Martial Arts to become a family member of Elite!

My 7 year old son has been coming here for almost 3 years, my 5 year old son has been coming 7 months, & I have been taking classes 3 months now. The owners and their staff are great with the students. The instructors provide gentle yet firm discipline. They teach in a way that is very fun for the kids. Our whole family trains at Elite. Whether you are looking for a program for your child, or looking into classes for yourself, or both, Elite is great for all of those. The Bedfords and the rest of the staff are great at teaching you from day 1, and will make you feel right at home. I feel very comfortable as a woman taking the classes, there are lots of other great women of all belt ranks who are learning alongside you. We initially started our 11 year old son at Elite to help with focus, confidence, and also to learn self-defense. Elite has been a wonderful experience for him, and we have seen drastic improvements in all 3 areas, as well as an improved attitude towards school, getting his homework done, keeping his room clean, helping with household chores, and improved physical fitness. When he visits a friend's house, I have been getting texts about how polite and respectful he is? Three months in, and our entire family has joined. Our daughter has been attending Elite Martial Arts since August 2016 and I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences for her (and for her parents too). The instructors not only teach her the martial arts moves, but they also take the time to explain why each move is needed and why it?s called what it is. Every lesson includes work on developing physically and mentally as well as focusing on valuable life skills and traits. In every class there is some type of discussion or information shared that is beyond martial arts, such as being respectful, having confidence, staying focused, being considerate, believing in yourself, demonstrating leadership and having a great attitude (especially if/when things don?t go the way they want them to go).

The owners, Mr. & Mrs. Bedford, and their entire staff are wonderful people that make you instantly feel like you belong to a special family. They are great at interacting with the kids to keep them focused to learn while keeping the classes fun. Based on the laughs and how the students interact and respond, it is clear they have a great respect and admiration for Mr. Bedford and all of the instructors.

The students can earn additional awards and recognition by showing respect and having a great attitude outside of the martial arts class. Parents have the ability to provide feedback or bring up issues of concerns with the instructors to see if it can be addressed through class. There are also opportunities for students to obtain feedback from their teachers at school to provide to the martial arts instructors. To me, this shows that they are not just about teaching martial arts, but providing an environment for kids to learn several valuable life skills and traits to utilize along with their martial arts training.

We have seen a lot of improvement in our daughter with her being respectful and focused and her confidence has increased as well. And best of all, she loves to attend class. I would recommend Elite Martial Arts to anyone (young or old) that is wanting a first class learning experience and also if they are looking for something more than just learning martial arts techniques.

We started at Elite to provide my son with Aspergers a way to get moving. We stayed because the staff at Elite were so good at their job, that my son no only was moving, but his self esteem went up, his motivation to do things other than video games improved, he did better at school and he was just more pleasant to be around. I had reservations about my young daughters engaging in martial arts but the minute I saw how Mr. Bedford interacted and taught the children, those concerns were gone! And his teaching methods are consistent; never a show for new comers. Then, shortly thereafter, we had such pleasant and helpful interactions with the other staff, we were hooked! Between Mrs. Bedford and Mrs. Roth, we felt welcome and wanted. It doesn't take long for them to make you feel like family! Students and parents! These improvements are just barely scratching the surface of all the positive changes we see in our son. As a parent, it is so enjoyable to attend class and watch Mr. Bedford interact with all of the students. You can truly tell that he LOVES his job!!!

The staff is very kind and professional. Very family oriented that would allow the entire family to train together. I like the discipline that it teaches and the lessons of each class. It is nice that they tie in daily activities to TKD.

We Love Elite Martial Arts! Our family has been apart of Elite for the last 5 years. Our son has learned and grown so much with self confidence and respect. He really looks forward to attending his weekly classes along with some special events they offer. His favorite being the nerf war. Not only do they teach martial arts in a fun and safe atmosphere they develop strong leaders for the future.

Our son began taking lessons at Elite Martial Arts in July. I have been impressed by how they not only train the students in martial arts, but also take time to impress and teach lessons in character. We have seen our son improve in his athletic and physical skills, focus, and more importantly, grow in his personal character. The instructors do a great job working with the children by mixing fun with disciplined training. My only regret is that my older kids have not had the opportunity to train here!

My daughter has attended Elite Martial Arts for about 1 year and a half. Honestly, We have never tried another school, so we don?t have a point of comparison, but I wouldn?t dare try another school. Over this past year, the school continues to grow by leaps and bounds (which in and of itself is a good sign), so overcrowding and the distance from my home are the only negatives I have experienced.
I had initially enrolled my daughter to learn self-defense, but I keep her there for the character development, above all else. Every half-hour lesson includes instruction on forms, exercise, self-defense, and also character development. Every cycle (few months), the entire school focuses on a different character trait (honesty, self-esteem, respect, etc.) which Mr. Bedford (the owner & chief instructor) addresses at the children?s level. Everyone in the school consistently teaches, rewards, and expects students to be of the utmost character and act like a black belt, which as a parent I value even more than the physical training.
The school is also consistent in meeting with parents at least twice a year to discuss the students? progress and parents? satisfaction with the school and training students are getting and have always appeared receptive to my comments. Furthermore, my one-on-one conversations with Mr. Bedford give me confidence that he is not only trained in the martial arts (he is a 5th degree black belt), but is also a well trained educator that approaches each lesson and unit with similar planning and differentiation to those that I use in the GenEd classroom.
Not only do I trust the training my daughter, age 7, is currently receiving, but am further encouraged by where she is going. It is clear that Elite Martial Arts is developing leaders through its leadership classes and legacy team, that not only receive extra training but also have the opportunity to develop their own teaching skills by assisting students in lower-level classes. This not only surrounds younger students with role models but also furthers the positive sense of community cultivated in the school by different award ceremonies and other events throughout the year.

Our family are members of Elite Martial Arts in Olathe and we are extremely pleased with our experience and highly recommend it. Our teenage son takes instruction from the Bedford?s there and we have been so happy with his training that we are going to start our younger two children and my husband as well. It?s a great value for the money, and has no hidden costs or fees that are unexpected. The class sizes are really good and the times classes are offered are at convenient times almost every day of the week so it makes it easy to attend regularly. Most importantly to us, beyond exercise and physical skills, the training focuses on character building, discipline and good decision making as well. If you are looking for a great family orientated training location this is it!

When you walk in the door at Elite Martial Arts you walk into a world where kids learn to respect others, learn to respect themselves, they are encouraged to always to their best, they learn to be gracious winners and how to accept defeat. They learn what it means to work hard and see the payoffs. They learn all of these things and so much more. Our daughter is 7 and has been training at Elite for just over 2 years now. We're thankful that we found Elite so early in her life. She learning skills that she will use the rest of her life.

Being at Elite Martial Arts has done wonders for my family! There is no other place that we have been that provides such a positive, friendly attitude towards everyone that is there. My son has been doing martial arts for over 11 years and I have been training for almost 6. Not only is Elite beneficial for us physically, but it challenges us mentally as well. The instructors there are also very caring and patient, and willing to help anyone who needs it. I would highly recommend anyone to try out Elite Martial Arts, no matter what age you are!

When it comes to martial arts in Olathe, there are a lot of options. I am so glad a friend recommended Elite for my son. His focus, confidence and self-esteem have improved immeasurably in the gym and out. The caring and dedicated staff helps each child find his/her potential. My son was really struggling with finding something where the reinforcement was always so positive that he wanted to participate every time and never got discouraged. He has been able to take lessons from class and apply them to other activities and school. The instructor even takes time in class to address the parents and let them know what they can expect in their child's development and how we can help them progress.

I can't imagine a better environment for kids and adults to learn martial arts. But there is so much more to Elite Martial Arts. The Bedfords are an amazing couple who are building a great Taekwondo school built on all of the highest principles of ATA Taekwondo. They have a well trained staff and all are caring and encouraging, when you are doing well, or when you need some pointers to improve your skills. Children learn respect for the instructors and each other in a structured environment where it is safe to make mistakes and learn from them. I am an older adult student, ex-teacher, who greatly admires the way Elite is helping the children to become confident, respectful, and caring individuals. And I appreciate the respect they have for the adult students and how encouraging they are when it doesn't come easily.

ATA Elite Martial Arts in Olathe, Kansas has become "the glue" that keeps our family working together. This is a FINE Martial Arts school. Mr. Bedford is an effective instructor, encourages challenges for healthy body and mind. He is experienced with different styles of Martial Arts. We appreciate Mr. Bedford promoting awareness in situations that extend to real life.
We appreciate the atmosphere of the school, it is strong and welcoming. We enjoy the option of a year-round discipline where all participants perform and are always accountable.
I am the mom in our family and I work full-time. I personally questioned my skill level = low! AND my time availability before joining the school. So, I joined three years ago and we are quite pleased enjoying a physical and mental activity for our entire family. If you are a busy parent just like all parents are... I promise it is possible, you should give it a chance!!

We were lucky enough to be gifted a 3 month trial membership from a family member at Christmas time. My 13 year old son Lukas, had always had an interest in Martial Arts, but is very shy and was a little nervous about joining a big group, so this was the perfect opportunity. We began attending the classes at Elite and he has loved it from the beginning. Mr. & Mrs. Bedford are awesome!! They are professional and helpful and so kind. Our hope when we started would be to help Lukas overcome some of the shyness. We saw an almost immediate change. After class, he is so talkative, and animated. This is in part due to the gentle, kind way Mr. Bedford helps to build the confidence and esteem of these children. We don't live close to Elite, but wouldn't even consider going anywhere else.

AMAZING! I couldn't be happier with the Martial Arts gym that we have chosen for our son. The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Bedford, are excellent role models to all of their families. The students work hard and learn many important life lessons. Watching my son grow both personally and as a Martial Artist in the last 18 months has exceeded my expectations. Our son started with Elite Martial Arts over 2 years ago. In that time he has progressed in rank, been invited into Black Belt Club, and most recently into Leadership Club. We are most appreciative of his level of maturity, respect, and confidence, which we attribute to Elite training. When you join Elite, you become part of the family. Elite has social events and a Holiday party, for all to attend. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and encouraging to one another. The instructors are well trained and give all the individual attention a student needs.

My son started back in January and since then he has gained confidence and respect that has transferred over to his baseball team. He has learned how to be a role model and set examples for other kids in his other activities. He enjoys coming to class and I enjoy watching him.

By the recommendation of several colleagues, my wife and I decided over a year ago to enroll our youngest child at Elite Martial Arts. In only a few short months, our entire family was enrolled! The training itself is informative, encouraging, challenging, and above all, it's enjoyable. The quality of instruction is exceptional! It's quite clear that a high level of thought and effort goes into each and every class. The location is accommodating, as are the hours of operation. Whether you work mornings / afternoons / evenings, there are several options to choose from when it comes to attending classes. There are classes for younger students, as well as for adults. They also offer family classes, which are well attended. In addition to the classes themselves, there are seminars, camps, and even their very own inner-school tournaments. All in all, we've been so very pleased with Elite Martial Arts, and would highly recommend it to anyone! Give it a try!

Positive character traits are taught, reviewed and encouraged both within the school, but also at home, school and the community as well. Elite Martial Arts has given my daughter and I a chance to do something together on a regular basis even though I am only watching. In the short four months my daughter has been enrolled, it has already become a rewarding experience and something we look forward to. Mr. Bedford is an amazing and inspiring mentor and coach for my daughter. This will teach my daughter life lessons that she will be able to benefit from forever. Our son has been going to Elite Martial Arts for around just 3 1/2 months and from the first day, he's enjoyed every class. Mr. Bedford is the primary reason for that. He along with the rest of the Elite instructors aren't just teaching forms. They are teaching respect, self-control, patience, self-confidence as well at many other qualities and traits Basically, to live your life like a black belt every day, regardless of belt color. We've tried other martial arts facilities, but this is the perfect fit for our son and family.

Elite Martial arts has been one of the best decisions we have ever made for our son. The Bedfords have instilled in our son a higher sense of self-confidence, respect and leadership. He is receiving life-lessons that can be used throughout his life while also becoming able to take care of himself in the event he needs to take action. Mr. Bedford and his instructors blend humor and their own life experiences into the classroom. Every session is focused and challenging, yet very enjoyable. After 2 years of observing our son grow in this positive environment, my wife and I decided to also join the ranks of the Elite. Elite Martial Arts is an excellent Taekwondo school to send your children! Mr. Bedford takes his time to really understand what his students need to excel. I had no real expectations when called to enroll my son in a trial session at Elite Martial Arts. I was blown away from the very beginning, the Bedfords are fantastic. Mr. Bedford has a fantastic way with people. Calling students by name from their first class, he challenges you to be your best in a positive manner. They take a holistic approach, not just teaching martial arts, but a set of universal values that include respect, loyalty, honesty, self-control, integrity, and goals. My son was hooked after one class and I was sold on the school. My son has learned a lot, not just in martial arts, but in important life skills. I was amazed to find out that many senior students and assistants were 3 to 4 years younger than my wife and I had guessed because of how they act and carry themselves. I recommend Elite Martial Arts without reservation as I cannot speak more highly of the school or the Bedfords. Stop in and check them out, you will not regret it.

I?m a 2nd Degree Black Belt and have been at Elite Martial Arts for three years; it is a great place for both kids and adults to train. The instructors are good at teaching to each person?s skill level, always helping everyone to do their best. When I moved here, I had already been in Martial Arts for a few years. So, I went to about a dozen schools to watch class. Seeing how the instructors taught and the overall level of the students; Elite had the best of both. The culture is a mix of fun, hard work and respect.

My son and I both train at Elite Martial Arts and we absolutely love it! Elite is very family-oriented and there are many families who train together, from little ones to grandparents! The quality and depth of the curriculum is incredible and the instructors are very knowledgeable and encouraging. The classes are designed to support and challenge all ability levels and build on the potential of each student. Through leadership classes, belt rank testings, and tournaments, my son and I have gained more self-awareness and confidence. We learn and practice important self-defense techniques in a safe environment. With all of that, plus strong character-building programs and a supportive atmosphere, Elite Martial Arts has been a wonderful place for us to strengthen our mental and physical capabilities and have lots of fun!

Elite Martial Arts is a great environment for kids and families. Mr. Bedford is a wonderful instructor. He knows how to inspire people and encourage them to do their best. I am so grateful to have Elite martial arts in our lives! All five members of my family are training now and we enjoy every moment of it. Mr. Bedford is a wonderful teacher and friend and we have an enormous amount of respect for both he and his wife. My children (ages 4-9) are more respectful in all aspects of life. My oldest daughter has become better at soccer since starting her training. She is more balanced and focused on the soccer field. My younger daughter has more respect at home where she used to have behavior issues regularly. Could not be more excited to continue our journey with ATA!!
