A native New Yorker, Dr. Kaufman earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn College. He attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his internship at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, both in the Bronx. Dr. Kaufman earned a fellowship at the University of Miami School of Medicine and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is also certified in nutrition support.

As Medical Director of AGA's Crohn's and Colitis Treatment Center, Dr. Kaufman has organized the Dr. Stephen Matarazzo IBD Conference in the past that brought some of the top physicians on the east coast to present the latest information to medical professionals and the public.
